The reason why La Romana, Dominican Republic needs to be on your check list.
La Romana is the primary town in the south east of the Dominican Republic. It's a significant tourist location and it is the center of the sugar industry in the nation. Central Romana Company is the owner of a sophisticated sugar mill in the heart of the town and hectares of sugarcane farms surrounding the town. The rich and famous flock to Casa de Campo, one of the most exclusive resort hotels in the region. There are various variations of the way the town got its name.

La Romana really took off after a modern sugar mill was built just after the First World War. Poor Dominicans and Haitians found work on the plantations or in the factory and the population continued to grow. The American Gulf and Western company bought the sugar mill in the sixties. And the company invested in more regions of the island. They used the dormant sugarcane fields for grazing of livestock. They also built hospitals, schools and additional housing for their workers. And they invested in Casa de Campo, a high end resort. With is the tourist industry was born in the area.

The region has considerably more to offer then just beach and ocean. The National Park is actually a cross over area between genuine rainforest and dry exotic woodland. And you may sign up for adventures on the Rio Chavon which floats via a big gorge to the ocean close to La Romana. To the west of the metropolis you will find a fantastic cavern system, called Cueva de Maravillas. You will see Taino rock paintings here..
