Before you start your Ireland holiday, let's start with a history of the Ireland Currency
The history of Ireland Currency is closely tied to that of Ireland's political development over the past 1000 years. It started with the Nordic Vikings, who produced the first Irish coins in Ireland in the 10th century. The Vikings came from Scandanavia, losing everything in their path before subsequently settling and assimilating. This has subsequently left us with a marvellous legacy that marks political propaganda, social changes and economic trends. Ireland Currency can as a result be seen as an extraordinary historical paper. The first Irish coins were struck in Dublin in about 995AD by order of their King Sihtric III. Up until this point, a selection of coinage had been circulating across Ireland, such as the Anglo-Saxon, western European and Islamic from central Asia. The Irish coins that were produced had a one penny value.
